Dr Vandana Das murder case: Safety audits at Medical Colleges in five days – News9 LIVE

Kerala Health Minister Veena George directed the Medical Education Director to complete safety audits in all Government Medical Colleges within five days. The decision was taken in the wake of the murder of Dr Vandana Das, a house surgeon at Government taluk hospital last week.
The officials were told to conduct gap analysis, install security alarms within 15 days and to introduce a public address system. She also told officials to take necessary precautions to prevent attacks against medical professionals. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting held on Saturday.
The meeting decided to arrange a briefing room to pass information regarding the status of patients. One bystander will be allowed in hospitals. In emergency care centres, only two persons will be allowed.
Facilities such as single exit/entry facilities, walkie talkies, proper lighting on corridors, patrolling of security guards etc must be ensured. The Minister asked officials to conduct a mock drill to check the efficiency of the system.
